CONGREGATION

|
The sisters of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (SVM) is a religious Congregation for women in the Arch Diocese of Kottayam. It took its origin in the Syro-Malabar Church in Kerala,India. Servant of God Mathew Makil founded it on 24th June 1892 at Kaipuzha,Kottayam . Bishop Charles Lavinge officially recognized and blessed our Congregation. Sr. Mary Aley and Sr. Mary Margaret are the pioneers of the Congregation.

The
main reason for starting this congregation was
to facilitate the vocation to religious life for
the women of Southest Catholic Community. At
that time there was no religious congregation
for women in the southest catholic community. The
second aim was to give education and formation
for girls, thereby to uplift and enrich the
families and society at large. Our founder
servant of God Mathew Makil believed that the
growth and development of the society will take
place through the foundation of a religious
community. At the same time our sisters are doing
a marvelous service in different hospitals and
clinics in Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Banglore,
Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Tanzania and U.S.A.
